Alabama Shakes' Brittany Howard Releases a Surprise Side Project

Entertainment

Still reeling from Sound & Colour? Alabama Shakes frontwoman Brittany Howard has dropped the fruits of her labor with a new-ish team of players from bands like Fly Golden Eagle and Clear Plastic Masks, called Thunderbitch. As you can see from the promo video, in which figures in white face paint, wigs and all-black outfits run around and look gothic, the whole thing is a little more rockabilly than the look and sound of the Alabama Shakes.

Thunderbitch has played together before, as the Nashville Scene points out, and they’ve released a few tracks as well, but this is their first full-fledged production. Their website bio reads:

Thunderbitch. Rock ‘n’ Roll. The end.
ThunderBand is: Thunderbitch, Matt Man, B Bone, ThunderMitch, Char Man and A Man

If you haven’t guessed it, according to Pitchfork, those names are pseudonyms. Under tour details, the band writes, “Maybe someday….?”

You can stream Thunderbitch’s self-titled album at their website, or buy it on iTunes.
