Far outweighing its basic premise of middle-class white people in California having family issues, Casual’s Season 1 was a strange delight, mostly due to its slow burn of how and why its characters developed their relationship issues, yet still find themselves looking out for one another. That’s largely because of Michaela Watkins—good in everything—as Valerie, who, following her divorce, moved in with her perpetually single brother Alex (Tommy Dewey), bringing with her her caustic daughter Laura (played by Tara Lynne Barr).

Season 1 really ended with a bang, with a lot of the trios’ secrets catching up to them, ruining the good stuff they seemingly had going on, but Season 2 seems to have them trying to pick up the pieces and attempting to actually become well-adjusted people. With appearances from Vincent Kartheiser and Katie Aselton, we can only hope that Valerie and Alex’s mess of set of parents (played by Francis Conroy and Fred Melamed) come back too.

Casual Season 2 premieres on Hulu on June 7.
