Have ​FKA twigs Teach You How to Dance

Just five short years ago, before FKA twigs was a rising outré-pop star and trendsetter worldwide, she was working with the British government, teaching young people to dance, sing, and write poetry. She was just a young person herself—22 at the time—but she’d already been dancing professionally for nine years by that point, having worked since the age of 13.

So by the time this video was shot, showcasing the day-to-day work of “Twiggs, Dance Tutor,” she practically had her empirical pHD. Clearly the local news crew (or whomever) who filmed this knew she had something at the time, because they can’t take their camera off her. Whether she’s teaching beginner-level contemporary dance classes to Aaliyah jams or chatting about the mechanics of her job (“just let go, pretend you’re in the club or your bedroom!”), they are clearly psyched. As are the dudes at the end who think the workshop is “banging.” The program was shut down when “the government cut the funding” and she “got sacked, basically,” but wow, what a peek into the good heart and inherent dance-instructional wherewithal of the good-hearted twigs.
