Coachella—the annual gathering of the ugh-galos in Indio, California—is scheduled for April 15-17 and April 22-24. Rumors are already swirling about two major band reunions during the 2016 festival and if they prove true (they’ve been all but officially verified by the New York Times), music fans—specifically music-loving dads—will lose their minds.
According to the Times, both Guns N’ Roses (featuring a lineup of Axl Rose and Slash for the first time since the mid-’90s) and LCD Soundsystem (featuring James Murphy and whoever else is in that band) will perform at this year’s Coachella:
Now, some version of the classic Guns N’ Roses will headline the next Coachella, which will return to Indio, Calif., on April 15-17 and April 22-24, according to a person with direct knowledge of the festival’s plans, who was not authorized to discuss it publicly. The festival is expected to announce the lineup early next week.
The next Coachella will also feature the return of LCD Soundsystem, the dance-rock band led by James Murphy, which last performed in a farewell show at Madison Square Garden in 2011. Rumors of an LCD comeback surfaced on Dec. 24, after the group released a new song, “Christmas Will Break Your Heart,” on its website.
As the Times points out, highly anticipated band reunions have become a big part of Coachella’s appeal. Over the past several years, Outkast, the Pixies, and Rage Against the Machine have all reunited on the Coachella stage. See also: the time that Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre reunited with Tupac’s hologram.
Also carving out a place for themselves at Coachella: Dads! The Guns N’ Roses reunion will be great news for them, as will the return of LCD Soundsystem. (“But LCD Soundsystem is not a dad band,” you cry! “I love LCD Soundsystem and I am not a dad!” Um, that’s great. But yes, they are.)
