This Carly Rae Jepsen/Trent Reznor Mashup Is a Hardcore Delight

When you think Carly Rae Jepsen, you think annoyingly catchy melodies and sugary lyrics that rely heavily on their face value. What you don’t think, or at least I didn’t, is “man, Carly Rae’s new song will sound so hard mashed up with Nine Inch Nails’ ‘Head Like a Hole.’” But you know what? I really, really like it!

Mixing together not only their music but images of CRJ and NIN from their music videos and live performances, mashup artist YITT has brought us something patently cool and eminently listenable. I can’t say I’m an alterna-rock connoisseur (at least not when Tori Amos isn’t involved), but I’d definitely buy an album of today’s top hits mashed together with the grungy standouts of yesteryear. And then I’d probably annoy everyone I know with it. But first I’m going to listen to this mashup again. It’s just that good.
