Is there any movie from at least a decade ago that Hollywood won’t remake? Pretty sure not. And that includes, obviously, movies that are themselves remakes. I’m fine with the concept of everything being a rehash of what came before, but at least try to fool me with new movie titles, Hollywood, please.

Variety reported on Thursday that Demián Bichir and Andrea Riseborough have signed up to appear in Sony’s “reimagining” of The Grudge.

Nicholas Pesce will direct, Ghost House and Good Universe will co-produce. Sam Raimi, of Ghost House said in a statement on Thursday, “We are so exited about this new adaptation. We went back to the original source material to deliver a relentless supernatural thrill ride that explores the horrors of American suburbia.” (Again, not to belabor the point, but this is the exact description of most horror films—why call this one “The Grudge”?)

The first remake of The Grudge, starring Sarah Michelle Gellar, was released in 2004 and spawned The Grudge 2 (2006) and The Grudge 3 (2009). The first in this series was a remake of Japanese horror film Ju-on: The Grudge.
