A Lost Scene From Sex and the Jersey City

Entertainment

For the 20th anniversary of Sex and the City—which premiered on HBO on June 6, 1998 and went on to become iconic prestige television—Jezebel is doing a week of posts dedicated to our favorite band of sexual women friends.

As folklore has it, Sex and the City was originally set to take place in Jersey City. NOT Manhattan. The pilot episode follows Jersey City sex columnist Carrie Bradshaw as she writes about the difficulty of finding love in the city of Jersey City. Carrie meets Mr. Wig (a 40-something man who wears a toupee to cover his bald spots). Miranda is a hotshot paralegal working for Cellino & Barnes. Charlotte hates the smell of New Jersey. And Samantha absolutely loves it.

Jezebel got a hold of the following scene from the pilot episode of SATJC. Suffice to say, it wasn’t good enough and it’s fortunate that Sex and the City wound up taking place in the best city in the world, New York City. Crazy to think how it could have been. All we can do is wonder.
