All the Enviously Glam Looks At the NAACP Image Awards

The 49th NAACP Image Awards were pre-taped on Monday night, with a red carpet full of extravagant, glamorous fabrics for the eye to see. See all the LUKS looks below.

Kerry Washington appears to be floating in a cinched black Michael Kors gown and the blown out hair is a chic touch. Issa Rae is rocking a belted Marc Jacobs gown that’s eye-catching but not one of my favorite red carpet looks of hers. I want to put some roller skates on Claudia Jordan and watch her go. Singer Andra Day is a sequined stunna in Armani, complete with the pinned wrap hairdo (or don’t to some people) that Rihanna busted out a few years ago.

Yara Shahidi knows a high ponytail instantly dramatizes an ensemble; her dress is a remix of a Vera Wang runway piece. I’m into Lil Mama’s electric-shock hairdo, though the gown is neither here nor there. Tamera Mowry chose a sleek one-sleeved gown, and Tischina Arnold is YOUR GORGEOUS MUTHA.

While Get Out Star Lil Rel Howery looks dapper and ready to deliver a thrilling sermon, his brethren Jordan Peele, Daniel Kaluuya, and Common chose streamlined tuxedos.

Black-ish star Marsai Martin is cute in emerald, but the controversy is that her look is too grown for a 13-year-old. Maybe losing the train in the back would help simplify it, along with more subtle makeup. My everlasting queen Ava DuVernay picked the perfect shade, length, fit, everything. I can’t say the same for Samira Wiley (would this work in black?). Jurnee Smollett’s nude-ish shabby chic dress makes me want to read a Victorian novel.

Laverne Cox and Halle Berry (with a strategically placed middle drape) are shining in sheer. Tracee Ellis Ross kept it glam in Narciso Rodriguez (peep the fur that goes with this, above). Singer Amara La Negra, a castmember on the new Love and Hip-Hop Miami, went for max drama with Elvira slit sleeves.

I commend these young men for knowing how to not just wear a boring black suit. Power’s Michael Rainey Jr. paired powder blue with beige. Algee Smith told his stylist, “No thank you. I don’t need the shirt.” And the Black-ish kids Marcus Scribner and Miles Brown added necessary splashes of personality.

Yvette Nicole Brown wore a gorgeous print gown and nailed it. Loretta Devine is charming in red. Niecy Nash told her stylist, “Darling, give me the sultriest dress you can find.” And similar to Jurnee, Logan Browning went for delicate romanticism.

Jenifer Lewis was right to accessorize her lovely sequined suit with gloves. Reality star Draya Michele is beauty-pageant ready. Jeannie Mai wore a bold and beautiful pantsuit, and her The Real co-host Adrienne Bailon has the cleave out.

Wrinkle in Time’s Storm Reid chose a galactic polka dot dress. I love that Rutina Wesley and The Walking Dead’s Sonequa Martin-Green opted for prints (more prints on the red carpet!), though I’m not drawn to these in particular. LeToya Luckett told her stylist, “Give me something a goth Cinderella would wear.”

Once again, it’s great that these guys—Laurence Fishburne, Tyler James Williams, Caleb McLaughlin and Mack Wilds—dared to be different and they all look good.

Tanika Ray is angelic in a green lace get-up. Danielle Brooks is a princess and a bride and so what! Loni Love, ready for Vegas, and Naturi Naughton are in shades of black.

Stylist June Ambrose had literal wings and this moment had to be singled out to be fully appreciated.

Yvonne Orji’s embroidered gown is a joy. Bianca Lawson is eternally young and graceful in a tiered gown. Danai Gurira pops in white, but these are too many ruffles for my liking. Mandy Moore told her stylist, “Get me something the color of the beautiful sky that I can cry in.”
