Andy King, an event producer who revealed in Netflix’s Fyre documentary that Billy McFarland asked him to “suck some dick” so the festival could have a large supply of Evian water, originally wanted the scene cut from the documentary. Wow, I wonder why?

King told TMZ that he initially begged producers to take the scene out, but director Chris Smith told him, “Andy, you don’t understand. Without that scene, there isn’t a documentary,” and to trust him on this one.

It’s clear from the documentary that King underestimated the reach the clip would have (he sort of laughs off the idea that the story would get very far) but the virality he’s gained from the anecdote has since helped him. “I probably wouldn’t be where I am today if it had been taken out,” he says. “I mean, how have I become this social media hero over a situation like that?”

Andy King, everyone: always willing to take one for the team.

It’s “funny” because he’s a white male of a certain class standing where that was considered an “outrageous” request (and it certainly was outrageous). It’s less funny to consider that for some folks such “asks” aren’t that out of the norm.

I can imagine that a clip of a Black woman admitting such a thing would absolutely ruin her, professionally and socially (assuming she doesn’t work in the sex industry).
