Brandy’s released a new video for “Beggin & Pleadin’” via BET, a nod to the juke joints of the 1920s and ‘30s ruled by blues women like Bessie Smith. She performed the track recently at the Black Girls Rock awards show, and in the video Ray J makes a cameo.

Off stage, the singer is fighting a legal battle with her label Chameleon Entertainment Group, which she says won’t allow her to record or release new music until she renews their contract, according to the Associated Press. Brandy sued the company in March and her fans have launched a petition entitled #FreeBrandy to support her efforts.

The Moesha alumnus is also starring in BET’s new comedy, Zoe Ever After.
