Can You Handle Idris Elba Playing a Villain Zaddy in the Fast & Furious Spinoff?

Entertainment

Idris Elba will reportedly play the hot “main villain” in the Fast & Furious spinoff starring Dwayne Johnson—a film Tyrese Gibson has been vehemently against.

Deadpool 2‘s David Leitch is directing the movie, which pairs Johnson (special agent Luke Hobbs) with another Fast & Furious family favorite, Jason Statham, aka Deckard Shaw. What type of villain will Idris be and what amazingly speedy and agitated automobiles will define him?

Variety reports:

The film will see the often-at-odds pair teaming up. Sources say Elba’s character is the antagonist the duo will go up against.
Since his arrival in the franchise’s fifth installment, Universal has tried to find a way to spin off Johnson’s Hobbs character, given his popularity with fans. Statham joined the series in the seventh movie, and considering the chemistry between the two actors in 2017’s “The Fate of the Furious,” Universal took action on plans to develop a spinoff. It hits theaters on July 26, 2019.

That’s like three zaddies for the price of one. (Note: I have come around on considering Dwayne Johnson a zaddy.)

Variety notes that Elba, who’s in the “final negotiations” stage of the deal, also played a villain in Star Trek Beyond and was the voice of Shere Khan in The Jungle Book. He’s made for this.
