Cardi B Cancels Plans to Tour With Bruno Mars This Fall

Cardi B announced on Thursday that she will not be participating in Bruno Mars’ upcoming fall tour so that she may have more time to recover from giving birth earlier this month, and in order to spend more time with her newborn babe, Kulture.

The artist said in a statement posted to Twitter and Instagram Thursday evening, “I thought that after giving birth to my daughter that 6 weeks would be enough time to recover mentally and physically. I also thought that I’d be able to bring her with me on tour, but I think I underestimated this whole mommy thing.”

Bruno Mars responded to Cardi’s decision with a supportive message.

Mars and Cardi previously collaborated on the single “Finesse.” Mars’ tour is scheduled for a performance at Lollapalooza on August 3, then it will proceed to Denver on September 7.

I’m so glad she publicly stated why she was not going on tour. So many celebs make it look like having a baby is nbd. Even with money for support like postpartum doulas, night nurses, nannies and/or having helpful family around, it doesn’t make having a baby magically easier. I mean it does a little, but there are many aspects of childbirth and parenting a newborn that cannot be avoided with cash. Regardless of how you gave birth, your body is tore up! You could have a new butthole and a shredded pelvic floor! (Full disclosure: I had a fourth degree tear.) Even if you have a csection, your pelvic floor can still be all fucked up. And you’re recovering from major abdominal surgery (from a csection). Anyway, good for her for recognizing that she is not physically and mentally ready to go back to work and for not shying away from being honest about it either. It is so fucked that we don’t have national paid parental leave in this country. No woman should have to go back to work so soon after giving birth.
