Disney Probably Won't Rehire James Gunn Despite Protests From Guardians of the Galaxy Cast
EntertainmentIn July, Disney parted ways with Guardians of the Galaxy director James Gunn, after a handful of offensive tweets in which he joked about rape and pedophilia came to light. The cast of the movie came to Gunn’s support, including the worst Chris (Pratt), Zoe Saldana, Selma Blair, and others, urging Disney to rehire him for Guardians of the Galaxy 3 in an open letter. According to one source, it won’t work.
Variety reports that a source “close to the matter” said the following:
“I don’t see Disney re-hiring him. Those tweets were so horrible and Disney has a different standard than other studios.”
Variety notes that “Gunn’s comments were nearly a decade old and were recently resurfaced by alt-right agitators.”
If you’re wondering how bad the Tweets were, a handful are quoted in the piece, including: “The best thing about being raped is when you’re done being raped and it’s like ‘whew this feels great, not being raped!’” And: “I’m doing a big Hollywood adaptation of The Giving Tree with a happy ending – the tree grows back and gives the kid a blowjob.”
