Downton Abbey Is Really, Truly, Finally Gonna Be a Movie, For Real This Time

Entertainment

Downton Abbey has been off the air for two full years here in the United States, but the appetite for the troubles of aristocrats and their domestic staff remains ravenous as ever. And so the Downton Abbey movie is finally, finally happening.

Deadline reported:

Focus Features has set production with Carnival Films to begin this summer for a return to all things Crawley. The original principal cast, including Maggie Smith, Michelle Dockery, Hugh Bonneville and more, are set to reprise their upstairs/downstairs roles with Focus and Universal Pictures International distributing.

“Story details are being kept under wraps for now,” Deadline noted; season six got as far as 1926, which puts the Crawleys conveniently close to the turmoil of 1929 and some dramatic but resolutely stiff-upper-lip pawning of tiaras Lady Mary doesn’t even wear anymore.
