Ed Sheeran's Plan for Wedding-Slash-World Domination Is Working (Thanks a Lot, Beyoncé)

Entertainment

It is now clearer than ever what Beyoncé’s doing with that guy: going to No. 1. The Bey-assisted remix of Ed Sheeran’s “Perfect” has hit the summit of the Billboard Hot 100, Billboard reports. “Perfect” hops from No. 3 to No. 1 thanks to a huge sales bump it received after the Dec. 1 release of their collaboration.

“Perfect” is Beyoncé’s 10th (and worst, just saying) No. 1, if you count her singles with Destiny’s Child, which I really think you should. To put Bey’s longevity into perspective, I’m pasting in this tweet whose tantalizing information I am as yet unable to verify:

Sounds right. The other seven, then, would be: Cher, Carlos Santana, Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, John Lennon, Elton John, and Meat Loaf. What a group.

Meanwhile, Ed Sheeran is one step closer to completing his plan of invading all weddings (including, perhaps, the upcoming royal one?) and attaching himself to people’s memories like an algae-eater with a wee acoustic guitar under his fin. And regarding Sheeran’s chortled-at Grammys snub (no Album or Song of the Year nominations lol), he had this to say to Billboard:

You know I’m not dying, it’s not like I’m never gonna be nominated for a Grammy again. And I was nominated for two Grammys. This is why everything’s meant to be. The week after that, I get an MBE from the palace, I go No. 1 on Spotify, I go No. 1 on Billboard, I’m about to have my second ever Billboard No. 1, like there’s so many other things in the mix that counterbalance it.

Sounds mad to me.
