Good Vibes For the Weekend: Here's MNEK Covering Cher's 'Believe'

MNEK—a 20-year-old artist from the UK, whose real name is Uzo Emenike, get it—is legit as hell: he’s got writing and production credits on a slew of British pop, house and garage hits, most notably Duke Dumont’s “Need U (100%),” and his voice is wonderful, all unshakable, soulful, velvety command. His debut EP Small Talk came out in March, which includes the great “Wrote A Song About You,” and thanks to Jenna Wortham I’ve been bumping this Cher cover nonstop—it’s folded into Ellie Goulding’s “Love Me Like You Do,” and the slanting, buzzing synth backdrop erases all traces of the original’s (glorious) camp.

Previously in MNEK covers: Coldplay’s “Magic,” Vanessa Carlton’s “A Thousand Miles” (with a little “Love Shack” thrown in for good measure).
