Here Is Your First Look at Mahershala Ali Attempting to Redeem True Detective

EntertainmentMovies

I was a devotee of the first season of True Detective, but when my complicated (some might say unhinged) theories failed to come into fruition, I was too disappointed to bother with season 2, which apparently sucked anyway. I am, however, intrigued with this teaser trailer for season 3, which stars Mahershala Ali, Stephen Dorff, and Mamie Gummer. It will probably not be good, but now that Sharp Objects has reignited my thirst for murder, it will have to suffice.

According to the Verge, the new season will premiere in January 2019. Ali will play police detective Wayne Hays, who is investigating a child kidnapping case in the Ozarks. The majority of the season will be directed by Daniel Sackheim, whose other credits include House M.D., The Americans, and The X-Files, though as Variety reports, Green Room director Jeremy Saulnier helmed the first two episodes.

Nic Pizzolatto, the show’s creator, wrote most of the season himself, though David Milch of Deadwood reportedly wrote the fourth episode. I am unconvinced Pizzolatto’s writing is able to match the madness my brain manages to create in a mystery show, as he has bitterly disappointed me once before, but I guess we’ll see in January.
