Hulu Orders Mindy Kaling's TV Adaptation of Four Weddings and a Funeral

The remake machine continues to turn every at least somewhat beloved movie from the past 40 years into a TV series!

The Los Angeles Times reported on Wednesday that Hulu has submitted a series order for Mindy Kaling’s TV adaptation of the classic ’90s romantic comedy Four Wedding and a Funeral, which starred Hugh Grant and Andie MacDowell. Kaling will be writing and executive producing the limited series, as will former Mindy Project show-runner Matt Warburton. Variety reported that Jonathan Prince, Howard Klein, Tim Bevan, and Eric Fellner have also signed on to executive produce.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show “follows a group of friends whose lives intertwine during five events”—the same five as in the original. Kaling and Hulu have inked deals before. In 2015, Hulu began hosting The Mindy Project, when Fox canceled the show after three seasons.

Hulu recently announced it had surpassed 20 million subscribers, and its upcoming TV offerings are formidable. The streaming platform also unsurprisingly just announced a third season of The Handmaid’s Tale.
