In Nicki Minaj's 'Barbie Dreams' World, Men Are Puppets

It’s Nicki Minaj’s world, and everyone else is just a puppet who lives in it.

I mean that literally—the music video for Nicki Minaj’s “Barbie Dreams” finds her cycling through very colorful, high-drama outfits, and the only other people in the video are puppets that resemble the male rappers she references in the song.

There’s a puppet Lil Wayne standing next to a fancy car.

There’s (what I think is) a puppet Drake rocking dubious facial hair.

Puppet DJ Khaled and puppet 50 Cent and puppet 6ix9ine make appearances, too.

None of them can speak, as Nicki rattles off the reasons why she wouldn’t want to sleep with any of them, which is the whole point.

“Dreams of fucking one of these little rappers,” Minaj sing-songs on the chorus. “I’m just playing,” she adds, but it’s already clear that she’s joking. She looks great throughout the music video and all of the puppets are, well, unattractive by design.
