It is 10:15 AM New York time, and all I want in life right now is to be lamping at a rooftop party, red solo cup filled with some fruity garbage—sangria with little flecks of dirt in it, no doubt—relaxing in a lawn chair with 25 of my closest friends listening to “I Know There’s Gonna Be (Good Times),” which is clearly already the best song of the summer.
Cut from Jamie xx’s forthcoming solo album, In Colour, it combines the best parts of Jamie’s preferred marimba-style synth setting and Young Thug’s sensitive-squawk, as well as the oft-cited line “I’ma ride in that pussy like a stroller,” which I have been thinking about for several days. (So, does this mean I have to push you? Not trying to do all the work here, bruh!) As writer Brandon Soderberg notes, the sample comes from The Persuasions’ “Good Times”; combined, this is the embodiment of humidity invoking happy sweat, a paean to flagrant and frequent summertime cuffing, afternoons with my new clique the LITerati (heh), a little two-step after beverage number two. Mellow dancehall star Popcaan is on the final version, though not this one, unfortunately; betting both are going to be shipped to Hot 97 and Power 106 with the quickness, though. So ready to feel awesome in the coming months.
