John Hughes Is Getting a Musical and It's Starring Evan Rachel Wood
EntertainmentMark your calendars for a fun night out, good people of Southern California: For the Record is returning to DBA in West Hollywood from February 6 through April 4 with Dear John Hughes, an original cabaret musical inspired by director John Hughes’ iconic work.
The show will star Evan Rachel Wood (who’s previously shown off her musical chops in Julie Taymor’s Across the Universe), Tracie Thoms (of Rent) and Rumer Willis (of…Bruce and Demi). For the Record was created/is helmed by Christopher Lloyd, Shane Scheel and Anderson Davis. The show will run simultaneously in Chicago.
Dear John Hughes, according to Billboard,
offers a modern-day cabaret take on director John Hughes‘ best known films, including Sixteen Candles, Pretty in Pink, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off and The Breakfast Club, which celebrates its 30th anniversary in 2015, exploring such coming-of-age themes as relationships, education and music.
So hopefully that means all of John Hughes’ patent heartwarming nostalgia, with none of the racism, date rape or flagrant use of the word “faggot” that mars the modern-day viewings of his work.
