Steve McQueen and Gillian Flynn Made a Thriller Starring Viola Davis?! And There's a Trailer?!?!

Four years after his stunning 12 Years a Slave won the Oscar for Best Picture, writer/director Steve McQueen is back with what looks like one of the most exciting and A-listiest movies I’ve seen in some time: Widows. It’s an original thriller penned by McQueen and Oscar-nominated screenwriter Gillian Flynn that stars—oof, who doesn’t it star?—Viola Davis, Michelle Rodriguez, Cynthia Erivo, Elizabeth Debicki, Daniel Kaluuya, Robert Duvall, Colin Farrell, and Liam Neeson.

With credits that impressive, does the plot even matter? Watch the trailer above. It hits theaters November 16.

The score was even done by Hans Zimmer. Should we wait until February for them to win an Oscar or should the committee just mail it now? Seriously, they are putting this movie out in November. That’s when studios put out the majority of movies that they believe will Oscar contenders.

For once, Neeson isn’t the father/husband/whatever who is grabbing the gun and rescuing someone or getting revenge for someone. He’s the victim. And it’s Viola Davis being the badass. I can’t wait to see her play against Neeson. Talk about powerhouse acting couple.

Also, I love, love, love it when Daniel Kaluuya and Colin Farrell play bad guys. They seem to take such relish in it. They grab the silverware, tuck in that linen napkin and just chew on that scenery for all its glory. And I love watching every bite.

God, can you tell that I am hyped for this movie?

Question is, how will McQueen sneak in his trademark Fassbender role? There’s bound to be a cameo. A McQueen film without Fassbender is like a Tarantino film without Samuel L. Jackson.
