Vanessa Hudgens on Life After High School Musical: 'I Have No Idea Who I Am and What I’m Doing'

Entertainment

Vanessa Hudgens—star of Disney’s beloved High School Musical, Harmony Korine’s Spring Breakers and now Dog Days, which seems to be a rom-com for dog lovers—is perhaps not a young celebrity you’d immediately think would give a noteworthy interview—she’s been media trained since childhood, after all—but she delivers in a new conversation over at the Guardian.

First, on the direction of her career:

High School Musical was a fantastic journey, but it completely derailed me from where I originally saw my career going. I always wanted to be the indie girl; I always wanted to be in the movies where I’m playing a drug addict or a stripper or a prostitute. That was my goal since I was like, 11.”

Hmmm. That brings us to Spring Breakers, which she filmed at age 25:

I woke up at 27 and I was like, ‘I have no idea who I am and what I’m doing,’ which is funny because at 25, I was like, ‘I’ve got life covered! We’re good! Smooth sailing!’”

Now, at 29, it’s unclear where Dog Days exists on Hudgens’ professional spectrum though after watching the trailer, it appears that the movie is about romance and dog therapy? That could be some PG-13 Disney shit, you never know…
