Watch Crazy Ex-Girlfriend's Nicki Minaj-Inspired Ode to Impressing the In-Laws

Entertainment

Despite a title and a marketing campaign that threw some off at first, the CW’s new show Crazy Ex-Girlfriend is much more than it appears. It’s the story of high-strung attorney named Rebecca who, on a whim, quits her job in New York to move to a small town in California after a run-in with her camp boyfriend. With it, show creator and actress Rachel Bloom has turned the idea of the “crazy ex-girlfriend” into an exploration of what happiness looks like—complete with slightly insane musical numbers!

You may remember Bloom from “Pictures of Your Dick” and “If Disney Cartoons Were Historically Accurate,” as well as other viral hits, so she’s no stranger to a catchy song taking off. Her latest—which will air during next week’s episode—entitled “I Give Good Parent” has Rebecca celebrating being invited to her ex-boyfriend Josh’s house for Thanksgiving—particularly because his parents end up liking her more than his actual girlfriend.

“Sit down at the table and I’m murdering / Inquiring what kind of work they’re in,” she raps, doing her very best Nicki Minaj impression. From a show that this week brought you “I Love My Daughter” about the fine line between loving your daughter and, um, loving your daughter, “I Give Good Parent” seems almost tame—though still completely nutty (in a good way).

Crazy Ex-Girlfriend airs on Monday nights at 8 pm ET.
