What Is Step Sisters and Why

Entertainment

Step Sisters, a forthcoming Netflix movie about a black sorority teaching a white sorority how to step, might be fine. It could also be terrible. I guess we’ll find out!

In Step Sisters, Megalyn Echikunwoke is Jamilah Bisho, a Theta sister headed for Harvard Law, with one condition (?): in order to get her dean’s endorsement, “she must cross cultural lines and teach a wild, party-obsessed white sorority the exclusive art of black stepping.” The white sorority has lost their charter and in order for them to regain their charter and also the resepct (?) of the college, they must compete in a step competition. Sure.

The movie was written by Chuck Hayward, the man responsible for Dear White People, and directed by Charles Stone III, the man who gave the world Drumline. ComingSoon.net informs me that Matt McGorry is in this, as well as Naturi Naughton, one of the three titular little women from the iconic R&B group 3LW. The whole trailer gives me Pitch Perfect but for step competitions with a dash of Bring It On, so maybe it will be okay.
