Where in the World Is Carmen Sandiego? (On Netflix, and She's Being Played by Gina Rodriguez)

Entertainment

In 2017, Netflix announced that Gina Rodriguez would be voicing the adventurous lady in red, Carmen Sandiego, for an animated series. Now, the streaming service has acquired live action rights to the character and Rodriguez will be bringing her to full life.

Deadline reports that Gina Rodriguez will play Carmen Sandiego in a full length feature, a standalone story that’s an “extension of the brand” currently being launched around the character; the property is owned by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt, who are simultaneously launching a line of books with the cartoon’s release in 2019.

The film does not yet have a writer or director attached, but it is being co-produced by Rodriguez’s company I Can and I Will. Rodriguez, my queen, has been extremely busy as she’s begun her transformation from TV-to-movie star-to-entertainment mogul, fighting weird alien creatures with Natalie Portman in Annihilation AND developing shows at the CW and CBS, and more. My fear is that she will soon be too busy to do Jane the Virgin, which I need for regular, cathartic ugly-cries. One more season, please! Where in the world is a happy ending for Jane and Rafael?
