Why Do Marvel's Men Complain About Their Costumes? Evangeline Lilly Has a Theory…

Entertainment

You know what Evangeline Lilly’s had? It! You know which direction she’s had it? Up! You know where she’s had it up to? Here!

During a recent interview with BackstageOL about Ant-Man and the Wasp, Lilly, who plays the film’s titular Wasp, was asked about her suit. While she wasn’t a huge fan of needing to ask for help just to get out of her costume and go to the bathroom (“I felt like I was three years old again!”), she loved it overall.

I love my suit. I think my suit is killer. I think my suit is so cool. I think it’s powerful. I think it’s modern and strong and sexy, and I think it made me feel like a superhero.

This surprised her, she said, because dudes who play superheroes are always talking shit about what they have to wear onscreen.

I have been hearing Marvel male superheroes complain about their suits for years!

I got into my suit, and I was wearing it, working it, doing my thing. I was like, ‘It’s just not that bad. Do I have the most comfortable suit in the MCU?’ Or, have men not had the life experience…

…of being uncomfortable for the sake of looking good, and they’re just like, ‘What is this? This sucks! Why are we—why why do I have to go through this?’ whereas a woman’s like, ‘I don’t know. This is, like, normal.’ You know? I wear heels to work. I’m uncomfortable all day. You get used to it. You tune it out.
