Womp Womp, Roseanne Is Cancelled

Entertainment

ABC just woke up and discovered Roseanne Barr is a raging racist IRL, on her show, and on Twitter, and cancelled her ass.

It was only a matter of time before Roseanne told on herself so loudly that even TV executives—ears plugged with the money from her Roseanne reboot—could hear her. Variety reports that ABC ended her show Tuesday after she compared former Obama advisor Valerie Jarrett to an “ape” in a tweet which she later deleted. She apologized, calling it a “bad joke.” Too late, lady:

“Roseanne’s Twitter statement is abhorrent, repugnant and inconsistent with our values, and we have decided to cancel her show,” ABC Entertainment president Channing Dungey said in a statement.

The racist insult was just one in a string of recent unhinged tweets from Barr this week. She also initiated a feud with Chelsea Clinton after tweeting that the former first daughter had the middle name “Soros.” She doesn’t, actually.

It’s virtually impossible to be unfamiliar with Roseanne Barr’s record of conspiracy theories, racism, and Trump support on Twitter, but it looks like her timing on this round was particularly bad for her show’s PR. Earlier Tuesday, Wanda Sykes tweeted that she would not be returning to the series, on which she’d been serving as a consulting producer.

In response to the cancelation, Sara Gilbert—who played Darlene—tweeted the following:

Babe, the show is called Roseanne.
