Adam Sandler's Netflix Movie Is Using Makeup to Darken Skin of Actors

Entertainment

Ridiculous Six, the Adam Sandler Netflix movie about Native Americans that should’ve stayed in Adam Sandler’s head, continues to be a clusterfuck of “Why?” The latest news is that the filmmakers are using makeup to darken the actors’ skin to look “more Native American.”

A source in the makeup department confirmed this, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Actress Allison Young, also told MSNBC:

“I’m full-blooded Navajo and they bronzed me. I was quite confused. That says something when the cultural advisor for the film quits because he’s offended.”

Prior to this, Native American actors have walked off set, citing offensive material.

Netflix hasn’t commented on the matter:

The company did, however, release a statement when the controversy first made headlines, offering, “The movie has ‘ridiculous’ in the title for a reason — because it’s ridiculous. It is a broad satire of Western movies and the stereotypes they popularized, featuring a diverse cast that is not only part of — but in on — the joke.”

Translation: ¯_(ツ)_/¯
