My Friends BTS Are the First-Ever K-Pop Act to Top the Albums Chart

Entertainment

Do you know my friends BTS?

They’re currently the biggest boy band in the world (yeah, One Direction’s demise really left a hole in the hearts of pop music fans everywhere, and no American/British/Australian act has been able to accomplish what they did since. But innovation is found in Seoul!). BTS is a K-Pop boy band made up of seven fucking adorable members, they’ve been in the game since 2013, and they’re here to ruin your life (in a good way) while breaking records.

Over the weekend, Billboard reported that BTS scored the No. 1 spot on the Billboard 200 Albums chart with their latest full-length album Love Yourself: Tear. This is impressive for any artist, but especially for these guys—they’ve become the first K-Pop act of any kind to grab the top spot, which means it’s a good time to start paying attention to Korean pop music if you haven’t already.

It gets even more impressive: This is only the second time a K-Pop album has made the top 10 of the Billboard albums chart—the first was BTS’ previous project, Love Yourself: Her, which debuted at No. 7 on the chart in October 2017. These boys are truly taking over the planet, but don’t just take my word for it—BTS performed and cleaned house at both the 2017 American Music Awards and the 2018 Billboard Music Awards.
