Guess who’s back in the house, heels click-clackin about? It’s the cast of RuPaul’s Drag Race All-Stars, bitch!
Entertainment Weekly announced the cast and reading the names I am currently sweating thinking about how dramatic this season is going to be. Jasmine Masters, who has not been shy talking about how Drag Race “fucked up” drag, is back, including “does not know the words to Ariana Grande’s ‘Greedy’” Valentina, along with Monet X Change, Monique Heart, Trinity Taylor, Farrah Moan, Naomi Smalls, Gia Gunn, and Manila Luzon.
But the person I’m already rooting for the most is Latrice Royale, who went to fourth place and gave probably the best lip-sync of all time with Aretha Franklin’s “You Make Me Feel Like (A Natural Woman” in Season 4. Royale ended up winning Miss Congeniality that year and was actually asked to be on All-Stars Season 3 but had to decline due to management conflicts.
Drag Race has weathered some criticism since the last season, especially since the finale left a lot to desire. There was also Pearl telling press that she is banned from ever being on All-Stars for comments she made about RuPaul, and the fact that RuPaul offended trans drag queens with some weird comments about show eligibility. I’ll be interested to see if any of the criticism influences Drag Race seasons going forward.
